90 km from Chennai is a small village called Walodai. A few years ago, people outside this tiny farming village hardly even knew it existed.
But all this is changing rapidly. Thanks to the Eureka School, Walodai is fast becoming the education hub for the entire block. Today, 120 children from villages far and near attend the Eureka School. Each year at the beginning of the school year, there is stiff competition amongst parents to enroll their kids in the school.
What is so special about this school? Why has it generated so much interest and excitement in the area?

To understand this, we need to understand how the other schools in the area function.
In most of the schools in the area, children learn very little. More than 50% children in 5th Std are unable to read or subtract.
Children find school boring and irrelevant. They are often beaten in class and afraid of school. The school internalizes in the child a sense of inferiority.

At Eureka School, 2nd Std children are able to read fluently and 1st Std children are able to subtract!
But more importantly, children have a lot of fun at school. All learning is done through games, activities, projects and learning festivals. Learning by doing builds a lot of confidence in children.
No fear and no hierarchy ensures that children really enjoy coming to school.
