a journey back in time... |
On 26th December 2004, the Tsunami struck the coast of Tamilnadu and destroyed hundreds of villages. AID INDIA volunteers immediately rushed to the affected areas and began to provide relief and rehabilitation to the victims. Meanwhile across the world people began to donate generously for the relief efforts. Giada, Murali and Indira from Banca Sella began to organize relief collection in Italy. But unlike most other people, they had a vision of doing something big, something long term. After a lot of research they zeroed in on AID INDIA.

AID INDIA was already working to improve quality of education. So a quick decision was made to start a high quality model school that will change the lives of children in the area.
Within two months, land for the school was identified and construction started. The entire area began to buzz with activity and by February 2006, a new primary school was ready and the first batch of little kids walked into the school in June 2006!
The school itself was designed in such a way that it allowed a lot of space for children to play, to display their work and to explore. The rooms were designed for natural ventilation and lighting. The walls and the corridor were also designed as learning aids.
